Shostakovich: Doubles Classic Tee
Shostakovich had a musical signature: D, E-flat, C, B, which in German note names spells D-S-C-H, his initials. He threaded it through his String Quartet No. 8, written in about three days near Dresden in 1960 and dedicated to the victims of fascism and war. In a letter to a friend he called the piece of no use to anybody. Here his name gets the same treatment, doubled and overlapped.
