Niccolò Paganini: Illustrated Classic Tee
Paganini left his favorite violin, an 1743 Guarneri he called Il Cannone, to the city of Genoa, where it is still kept. Rumor said he had sold his soul for his technique, a story he apparently helped along. In 1832 a twenty-year-old Liszt heard him in Paris and, reportedly, left determined to do the same thing on the piano.
