L.M. Gottschalk: A Night in the Tropics Classic Tee
Louis Moreau Gottschalk was born in New Orleans in 1829 and became a touring pianist on two continents. He wrote the symphony A Night in the Tropics while living in Cuba, and it premiered in Havana around 1860. It draws on Caribbean rhythms, which few concert halls of the era expected. He is rarely taught at school. Consider this the footnote.
