Johann Sebastian Bach1685 – 1750

In the winter of 1705 Bach, then twenty, walked more than 400 kilometres from Arnstadt to Lübeck to hear the organist Buxtehude. He had four weeks' leave and was gone closer to four months. Asked why, he said he'd wanted to learn a thing or two about his art. History is silent on whether Bach kept cats. We've decided that's an oversight.
