Ludwig van Beethoven1770 – 1827

Limited edition. Beethoven was almost completely deaf when his Ninth Symphony was first played, in Vienna on 7 May 1824. He stood beside the conductor and kept time from the score. When the finale, his setting of Schiller's Ode to Joy, came to an end, the story goes that he was still facing the orchestra, a few bars behind, until the contralto Caroline Unger turned him around to see the applause. Here for now, not forever.
