In July 1970 Australia's new Experimental Film and Television Fund made its first round of awards, to 73 applicants with more ideas than money. One grant covered the whole budget of Peter Weir's Homesdale, about three thousand dollars, a black comedy set in a guest house and shot at his own home in 1971. It won the Grand Prix at that year's AFI Awards. Arts funding at its most efficient.
