Ferde Grofé1892 – 1972

Grofé worked on the Grand Canyon Suite from 1929 to 1931, and Paul Whiteman's orchestra gave the first performance in Chicago on November 22, 1931. "On the Trail" opens with pack mules clip-clopping down the path. Grofé also orchestrated Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue for its 1924 premiere, so he knows his way around a famous tune.
