Antonio Stradivari's labels read Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno, then a year: Antonio Stradivari of Cremona made it, in such-and-such. He made an estimated 1,100 instruments, and around 650 survive. Plenty of other violins carry that label without having been anywhere near Cremona in 1700.
