Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky1840 – 1893

Limited edition. In Act One the Christmas tree grows to dizzying heights while the orchestra builds right along with it, which is about as literal as Tchaikovsky ever got. The Nutcracker, Op. 71, opened in Saint Petersburg in December 1892, on a double bill with his opera Iolanta. The critics were unconvinced. The holidays have since overruled them. Here for now, not forever.
