Ornette Coleman recorded Free Jazz on December 21, 1960, with two quartets playing at once, one in each stereo channel, for thirty-seven minutes. Jazz has had a few more signposts than it needed ever since. The man on this shirt has the right idea: hat on, instrument case in hand, in no hurry to choose between bebop, swing, the blues and the New Thing.
