Mahler thought a symphony should contain the whole world, and then wrote ones long enough to prove it. Nine finished, a tenth left in sketches. This is him in the manner of an old concert program, on 12 oz cotton canvas, big enough for scores, records, or the groceries that follow a ninety-minute symphony.
