Arnold Schoenberg1874 – 1951

Schoenberg never finished Moses und Aron. Two acts are written in twelve-tone technique, and the third survives only as sketches. He also dropped a letter from Aaron's name, possibly because he was superstitious and "Moses und Aaron" has thirteen letters. The first staged performance was in Zurich in 1957, six years after his death.
