Giuseppe Tartini

In 1713, by his own account, the violinist Giuseppe Tartini dreamed he had sold his soul to the Devil, and handed him his violin to see what he could do. The Devil played a sonata so beautiful that Tartini woke up breathless and grabbed his violin to write it down. The result, the Devil's Trill Sonata, is famously hard to play, and Tartini spent the rest of his life saying it was nowhere near as good as what he heard in the dream.
